Predictably, kitchen related appliances such as the Microwave Oven and Food Preparation products soared in sales, recording astounding growth rates between 20% and 50% in sales units and value compared to the previous month.

Similarly, audio visual products such as LCD TVs and audio home systems experienced double digit growths in the same period – a seasonal trend as celebrating Malaysians furnish their homes with new products for the holidays.

On the downside, smart-mobilephones and almost all IT related products (media tablets the primary exception) recorded a down trend. As consumers spent on kitchenware and furnishing the living area, it was likely that they held back spending on other products, namely the ones mentioned above. As a whole, IT still maintained growth on a month-on-month basis, supported mainly by continuous growth seen in media tablets.

The sales decline seen in smart-mobilephones was also contributed by a new model launch that performed below expectations following a change in pricing strategies. The sale of smart-mobilephones is expected to have taken a more positive turn in trend towards August.
