  • The media is a powerful influence in an election and its degree of influence is dictated by the level of democracy in a country.
  • Media consumption of television and news portals (only media with data available at time of reporting) showed a sharp rise during the election—more pronounced for the news portals.
  • TV3 Buletin Utama is the channel of choice for news and this is amplified significantly during GE13.
  • Carat May 2013The viewership behaviour for news portals is more sensitive and event-driven and reflects the style of reporting and coverage of those events versus mainstream reporting.
  • High viewership events for news portals include the following:
    • January 13 Himpunan Rakyat Rally
    • Early March Lahad Datu Standoff

  • Viewership pattern for videos like kinitv and youtube, is somewhat “distorted” by rampant content sharing amongst viewers.
