Carat Malaysia’s Media Update: January 2013

The Malaysian advertising market growth for full year 2012 was a disappointing 6.3% (value at RM11.4 billion) versus 2011. The combined effect s of uncertainty in global macro conditions and (mis)prediction of general election timing resulting in many advertisers Carat Jan 2013 Updateadopting a wait-and-see attitude have contributed to the lower adex growth.

According to Nielsen’s ADEX report, some key categories (telecommunication and face care – woman) and advertisers showed cutbacks in 2012; or is it a case of shifting funds into other areas for better marketing return on investment which are growing in importance but are not monitored.
